AUGUST 2010:

My time in San Luis Obispo at the MUSIC MAN factory was unforgettable. To get to the "core" of my beloved MUSIC MAN basses was something very special for me - apart from getting to know all those amazingly nice people who are doing their best day after day for this legendary company. Sterling Ball, Dudley Gimpel, Nathan, Scott, Drew, Philipp Salb & Musik Meyer and all the others - thank you very much for a great time!!!

 

New endorsement: Since the products of german company TECAMP are no longer being distributed via "Musik & Technik", I had to re-think my gear endorsement situation. But first I have to give a big THANK YOU to Thomas Eich of TECAMP for a great time with amazing support! I wish you all the best for your products, Thomas - you really deserve nothing but the best of success!

 

I had a couple of good sounding offers, but indeed my search was over when I talked to Dirk Hesse, the german distributor of MARKBASS. I choose the SD 1200 with 1200 watts as well as two 4x10 cabinets for my big shows and tours.

Plus I got one 4x8 for the smaller gigs - and last but not least I will use the AC101 for my teaching, small rehearsals and small gigs.

 

Many thanks to Dirk Hesse - I am looking forward to a great long-lasting cooperation!

 

JULI 2010:

The entrance examinations for "Popular Music" at the "Musikhochschule Hannover" took place in june. I'm looking forward to teaching my new students - plus it makes me happy to see how much great feedback this new course of studies gets!

 

Well, i wasn't really planned this way originally, but it looks as if I find myself playing a couple of shows for the musical "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by HEINZ RUDOLF KUNZE & HEINER LÜRIG at the baroque garden theatre of Herrenhausen. Great cast, nice ambience, good music, funny jokes - come and see it!

 

The famous gospel singer BIG MAMA asked me to join in her new band: After years of countless gospel gigs BIG MAMA & BAND are finally back for some serious pop, rock, funk & soul music. The first gig will be taking place at the "Maschseefest" in my hometown Hannover.

 

By the end of june I'll be in the US of A, following an invitation by my endorser company MUSIC MAN in sunny California. REALLY looking forward to it plus I am more than happy to have my good friend PHILIPP SALB of german distribution partner MUSIK MEYER with me!

 

JUNI 2010:

I'll have to face it: I definitely spent more time in the studio as well as on stage than i spent at home this May. Apart from playing countless musical shows we finished the orchestra recordings for the productions "Children Of Eden" and "Maerchenmond".

Teaching at the MUSIC MAN BASS CAMP in Aldenhoven was great fun once again. Thanks to Adrian Maruszczyk for organising this great event - and thanks to everybody who took part!

 

Last but not least we started out the production of the upcoming issue of BASS PROFESSOR MAGAZINE which will be available from July. Still to come in June are the entrance examinations for "POPULAR MUSIC" at the "MUSIC UNIVERSITY" in my hometown Hanover. Looking forward to meeting my future students!

MAI 2010:

The "ROBERT JOHNSON GUITAR AWARD" on April 17 in Hamburg was great fun! Our sets with ULI JON ROTH, RANDY HANSEN as well as the allstar-jam with some of the winners of the contest ripped off the roof of the FABRIK! Especially the set with RANDY was an awesome surprise for both Michale Ehré and myself - this amazing players energy will almost scare you!

This month will again see quite a few studio sessions, including the recordings of "MAERCHENMOND" and "CHILDREN OF EDEN".

 

I'm also looking forward to teaching at my MUSIC MAN BASS CAMP at PUBLIC PEACE in Aldenhoven on May 15.

 

APRIL 2010:

On April 17 I will be performing with ULI JON ROTH & BAND at the "Robert Johnson Guitar Award" at the "Fabrik" in Hamburg. Guest appearances will be made by guitar greats such as Randy Hansen, Marcus Deml, Mattias IA Eklundh, Victor Smolski a.m.m. Make sure to not miss this high-class guitar event!

 

Apart from that I will be doing not less than five different studio sessions this month. Plus the musical shows "Best Of Musical" and "Footloose" will also be played several times throughout the weeks.

MARCH 2010:

I am back from the MOTHER OF ALL TOURS! We had some very intense times with VINNIE MOORE & BAND during our european tour - in fact we were flying to yet another country almost every other day. But the gigs were all worth the effort: we had so much fun on- and offstage that we decided to keep on working together! Apart from the musical fun there were LOADS of priceless experiences, especially in cities like Rome, Istanbul, Athens, London... and Beirut where we got to meet some of the nicest and most warmhearted people we had met so far!

Due to this tour the official release of my solo album "MUSIC LIKE PICTURES" had to be remitted to early march. Watch out, serious bass stuff ahead! 

 

JANUARY 2010:

HAPPY NEW YEAR! At the end of december i received a phonecall from the management of US-guitarplayer Vinnie Moore and was asked to play bass on the masters upcoming european tour. Aquiles Priester (Angra a.o.) will be on drums and Mike DiMeo (The Lizards, Masterplan) will be on vocals and keys. The tour will lead us all over Europe plus we'll be performing in Turkey and Lebanon as well. Please see TOURDATES for details. YEEHAAAAW!!!

 

Unfortunately it looks like the release of my solo album "MUSIC LIKE PICTURES" will have to be postponed due to these new circumstances. Not sure if I will be able to have everything ready by the end of january. :-( But hey: The tracks do sound amazing and I'll keep you updated on the release!

 

We had looots of fun during the video shoot at the lovely townhall of my hometown Hannover in december. The video was shot for the upcoming young tenor Alessandro Rinella - what an amazing voice - and was produced by Nikolai Georgiev (Scorpions a.o.). Will add a link to this side as soon as an official version has been put out. Bandwise we had Robert "Joecky" Joecks, Andy Kienitz and myself. Thanx for the gig, Joecky!

 

In january I'll be playing some FOOTLOOSE shows plus we'll have the rehearsals of the new MUSICAL GALA of the "Theater fuer Niedersachsen" which will be have its premiere on jan 29.

 

DECEMBER 2009:

The single of songwriter ANNA PIECHOTTA, "Care For Rare", has been recorded and produced in the POPINSTITUT HANNOVER studios at the end of november with me on bass and my old friend Kristof Hinz on drums and engineering/producing. Once again well done, bro!

 

We had so much fun during our debut gig with the HAJO HOFFMANN TRIO. Guess you will hear of this trio in the future. Wanna listen? CLICK ME!

 

A show to enjoy and relax was the gig at the ROBINSON CLUB Fleesensee close to Berlin. Wish I could play there more often... say another 20 times this year? ;-)

 

In december we have quite a few FOOTLOOSE musicalshows coming up, as well as a couple of function gigs with XXL, JAMES STEINER BAND, EXTRA DREI... and yet another MUSIC MAN BASS CAMP in Stendal. Looking forward to it!

NOVEMBER 2009:

YYYipp, it's almost done - recordings for my upcoming solo album are finished by now, except for the rap tracks of rapper SPAX which are to be done next week. Right now we are in the middle of arranging and producing the final tracks. Cover photoshooting as well as appointments with booklet designer ANDI KIENITZ are to happen this month as well.

I've got a new band: Sometime last month I received a phone call from well-known jazz violinist HAJO HOFFMANN who asked me to join his Trio with 7string acoustic guitarist MAIK SCHWANKE. The first rehearsals were an amazing experience... some of the stuff really reminds me of John McLaughlins Trio or Duo with Jonas Hellborg. Amazing players and amazing music with loooads of space for improvisation and free flow! The first gig will be on November 5 and I am really looking forward to it!

A real highlight of last month was the lovely MUSIC MAN BASS CAMP in Munich - thanx to everybody involved, especially SERAP & TONI! I will be back on the road with the BASS CAMP in November... please see "TOUR" for details.

80s musical FOOTLOOSE is doing better and better - most of the current shows are completely SOLD OUT!

Band recordings for rock opera "PIETRO E LUCIA" of composer DUSAN RAPOS are finished by now as well as recordings of the CZECH NATIONAL ORCHESTRA. Right now lead guitars are being recorded in London and vocal recordings are done in Bratislava. 

 

OCTOBER 2009:

The first shows of the 80s musical FOOTLOOSE have been played by now and have been an amazing success. Two scene mags have put FOOTLOOSE on this months title. We will be on the road with that funny trip back to the 80s a lot in october.

The MUSIC MAN BASS CAMPs in Neustadt and Bocholt went great. Many thanx to Ingo Luehring & Jochen Methling for supporting me at the local venues - you guys rock! In october I will be teaching at the BASS CAMP in Cologne and Munich (see TOUR for details).

FEEL THE BASS @ the POPAKADEMIE MANNHEIM was an event to remember. Isn't it always fun to catch up with such a great number of bassplayers and exhibitors? Many thanx to the large number of people who didn't get frustrated by the sardine feeling in the clinic room during my slap bass clinic...

The new semester has begun @ the HOCHSCHULE FUER MUSIK & THEATER in my hometown Hanover. Apart from teaching my bass students i will be responsible for the "repertoire"-band.

I'm currently in recordings for the last songs of my upcoming solo album. Most of the older tracks are alread finished. After that I will start dealing with cover artwork etc. - and then it is ABOUT TIME!!! :-)

Band recordings for the rock opera "Pietro e Lucia" for composer Dusan Rapos are soon to be finished as well. Additional recordings with with the "Prague Symphony Orchestra", choir and lead singers will be starting out by the end of this month.

SEPTEMBER 2009:

20.000 people have seen THE SECRET GARDEN in August - a month to remember for me! Right now we are already rehearsing for the new muscial production FOOTLOOSE - a great trip back to the 80s including lots of Funk, Soul, Pop and Rock. Rehearsals are lots of fun and very effective! And... hell yeah - finally there are heavy backbeats again for me to enjoy. Needed that sound so badly after "Garden"... :-)

 

Also I am busy working on my solo album with my dear co-producer CHRISTIAN LANZ. The first mixes are ready now and are sounding nothing short of jawdropping! This is going to be a killer album! I'll keep you updated.

News on the rock opera “PIETRO E LUCIA”: Along with cult producer JAN NEMEC (RUNNING WILD, ZED YAGO, GRAVE DIGGER, MSG, VICTORY etc.), my "soulbrother" OSSY PFEIFFER and myself started out quite well during our first recording sessions and the meeting with composer Dusan Rapos and his arranger has been great. Once again, concept being: Metalband meets “Czech National Symphony Orchestra” and „Czech Philharmonic Choir Brno“.

 

Thanx for your great response on my online lesson offers. Looks like lessons via SKYPE or ICHAT are a good idea... keep dropping me lines if you're interested.

AUGUST 2009:

July was such a busy month: First of all we had tests and exams for new and older students at the “Hochschule fuer Music and Theater” in Hannover. Pretty much at the same time we started out gigging with the Broadway musical “The Secret Garden” which will also be played almost every day of August.

Later in July there was this “nice and easy” tour with the BAHAMA SOUL CLUB. My personal fave happened to be the sold-out gig in Bonn – thanx!

Back from the tour I was asked to do some soundsamples for the german webside of MUSIC MAN (www.musicman.de) with the companies new model "Big Al" - which I did with pleasure. What an awesome bass... although his name sounds like of the members of the Village People! ;-)

Just the other day my “soulbrother” Ossy Pfeiffer and me started to work on the rock opera “PIETRO E LUCIA” along with cult producer JAN NEMEC (RUNNING WILD, ZED YAGO, GRAVE DIGGER, MSG, VICTORY etc.). The story is based on the book by author Romain Rolland. The music was composed by Dusan Rapos, lyrics by Eva Vejmelcova. Concept being: Metalband meets “Czech National Symphony Orchestra” and „Czech Philharmonic Choir Brno“. I am really looking forward to what this project is going to end up sounding like…

Unfortunately the gigs at Wacken with ULI JON ROTH have been cancelled. :-(
I am really looking forward to touring with ULI again soon. There are some plans for shows/tours... however, no confirmations have been made yet.

I am also proud to announce new dates for the MUSIC MAN BASS CAMP (please see date chart for details).

Also August will be seeing some function gigs with bands XXL and Supersonic plus we will begin to work on the upcoming issue of german bass mag BASS PROFESSOR.

 

JULY 2009:

Lars Lehmann goes radio! I'm still full of doubt, but it's true: Some time ago australian radio dj Lee M. Finch of radio station 2 EAR FM got in touch with me via my myspace site like this: "Hi Lars. I would love to play 'I Got the Bass Yo' on my radio show. How do I get hold of a copy? That song is the bomb. Great work. Thank you, Lee, bass player from Australia." Well, he didn't have to send me his request twice... after some emails I sent him a newly mastered version of the requested track. According to Lee the song has been played many times ever since - and indeed the number of Australia-based clicks on this page has increased severely! How cool is that?! THANX, LEE!!!

 

In June we have been into heavy rehearsing for the new Broadway musical "THE SECRET GARDEN" - an interesting experience for me because i'm bowing my double bass almost exclusively here. Premiere and the first shows went great and almost every show until the end of august is sold out already!

 

In June I also played my debut gig with NuJazz-act BAHAMA SOUL CLUB at a Jazz Festival in Mülheim, Germany, which was great fun. Believe it or not - this act calls for exclusive double bass playing as well!

 

July will be seing many "Garden" shows as well as a short but nice tour with the BAHAMA SOUL CLUB in Germany (see tourdates for details).

 

Also I am happy to announce three new dates for the MUSIC MAN BASS CAMP in Germany. More dates to be added soon.

 

JUNE 2009:

This month I will be playing with my new band BAHAMA SOUL CLUB feat. PAT APPLETON ("Hip Teens"), JAZZKANTINEs JAN-HEIE ERCHINGER, DJ BOBOs HILKO SCHOMERUS a.m.m. for the first time. Looking forward to the gig!

 

Apart from that we are in the midst of rehearsals for the new Broadway musical THE SECRET GARDEN with me on (mostly bowed) double bass. The premiere will be on June 26.

 

Ehm... what else is coming up this month?! A couple of function gigs as well as some tests for new and older students at the HOCHSCHULE FÜR MUSIK UND THEATER in Hannover.

 

MAY 2009:

The first dates of the MUSIC MAN BASS CAMP have been great fun! Many thanx to everybody involved, especially Markus Vogeler of BEYERS MUSIC, Gregor Fries of MUSIK SCHMIDT, Philipp Salb of MUSIC MAN/MUSIK MEYER, Thomas Eich and Johannes Pitz of TECAMP - and the lovely guys of ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK which has just become an official sponsor for the BASS CAMP. Watch out for more dates t.b.a. soon! This month I'll be doing a SLAP BASS MASTERCLASS as a special part of the MUSIC MAN BASS CAMP @ STATION MUSIC in the south of Germany.

 

Right before the theatre summer break we ended up gigging hard in April. It's kinda sad to know that shows like "CRAZY FOR YOU" as well as "GODFATHER OF SOUL" have been played for the last time by now... but anyway, we'll be coming up with new stuff soon after the summer break, e.g. with a musical by Marsha Norman and Lucy Simon called "THE SECRET GARDEN" which will be played throughout the summer @ the Barque Gardens in Herrenhausen (part of my homwtown Hannover).

Guess what: I will be bowing my upright bass almost exclusively in this show, so you'll find me practicing my bowing technique within the next few weeks. ;-)

 

About two weeks ago I received an invitation to play two jam gigs with musicians like Wolf Codera (sax), Andreas Recktenwald (keys), my old ABBAMANIA-buddy Harry Bumtschak (dr), Christoph Lindner (git) as well as singers Ron White and Gabriella Massa. Can't wait to jam with those cats!

 

Something else?! Oh yes, I'll be working hard on the upcoming issue of BASS PROFESSOR MAGAZINE...

 

APRIL 2009:

One helluva tour! The shows with ULI JON ROTH & BAND in Italy, Switzerland and France were indeed successful, intense & "rocking"! Thanx to everybody involved - and special thanx to KEE MARCELLO & BAND for fun and slippery jokes on the tourbus. ;-)

My new MUSIC MAN STINGRAY really rocked those stages. Some fans already put some video clips on Youtube where you can see the new bass - but indeed HEARING is believing!

 

The Frankfurt Musikmesse show is a great event year after year. This year you'll be able to find me at hall 4.0, booth J 71 for BASS PROFESSOR MAGAZINE.

 

MUSIC MAN BASS CAMP ahead! We will come up with the first dates in April, but here is my surprise of the month: The SLAP BASS MASTERCLASS @ "Station Music" on MAY 15 was SOLD OUT after only one week. That means 30 (!) bassplayers have already decided to be part of this clinic. We are currently talking about yet another date some time later this year...

Well, it took a little time do finish this months' update, but work really took its tolls again these days. A new issue of BASS PROFESSOR magazine has to be put out plus I'm gigging hard. Also I have to learn some new material for the upcoming shows in Italy, Switzerland and France with ULI JON ROTH (starting this month). Special guests for this tour will be Kee Marcello (Ex-EUROPE) and Graham Oliver (Ex-SAXON , T-REX). Sounds like fun, eh?

 

My "weapon" for this tour will be my new MUSIC MAN STINGRAY V in orange firemist which has just arrived. Yet another amazing instrument! I have played it a couple of times on stage already, but the first "real deal" for this young instrument will be the tour with U.J.R. - many thanx once again to ERNIE BALL, MUSIC MAN and german distributor MUSIK MEYER for their amazing support! Extra-terrific-special-thanx to Philipp Salb - you rock, dude!!

FEBRUARY 2009:

Work attack! :-) I spent almost every day of last month in the studio working on my soloalbum. First results turned out to go beyond my expectations... this is going to be a killer album! keep your fingers crossed for me - if I manage to stay focused on this work, the album might be available this summer.

 

Apart from that I will be performing at some shows at the "Theater fuer Niedersachsen" as well as the "Schauspielhaus Hannover" such as "Die große Musicalgala", "Godfather Of Soul" and "Ugly Ducklings". "Ducklings" will be played for the last two times. So if you can make it, try to get a glimpse of it. It really is worth the effort!

 

On Feb. 20th I will be playing bass for danish jazz singer Helle Hansen in Fredericia, Denmark. I'm especially looking forward to catching up with my dear bandmates Perry (git) and Martin (dr). Yeeehaw!!!

 

JANUARY 2009:

Happy New Year! :-) The calm days after x-mas were very refreshing. At the beginning of January I started out working at some new songs. Finally some time for my own stuff, whooow! Not sure yet what will be the result of this work, but let's see... 

 

As far as gigging I'm going to play the danceshow "GODFATHER OF SOUL" in January a couple of times (see "TOUR" for dates) plus I'm looking forward to perform at the cd release party of my old friend Robby Ballhause at the "Marlene" in my hometown Hanover on January 18.

DECEMBER 2008:

The parts in Greece and Japan of the tour with ULI ROTH & BAND brought looots of amazing new experiences to everyone of us. I already posted some photos in the GALLERY - have fun checking them out!

I am very thankful for this amazing year which brought me good health und love, which still are the things that count the most, aren't they?
Plus it led me to countries like New Zealand, Japan, Greece, England, Scotland, France, Italy, Croatia, Denmark, Belgium, Holland, and allowed me to play energetic gigs as well as interesting studio sessions. Thanks to all the amazing people which made these experiences so unforgettable and unique!

NOVEMBER 2008:

Supporting the SCORPIONS with ULI JON ROTH & Band in the UK was an amazing experience. Of course a special night to remember was the gig at the Hammersmith in London... sooo much rock history under one roof!

Thanx a lot to the lovely Scorps-roadcrew, bassist Pawel for russian Vodka and lots of BASS TALK, and to Thomas Eich and Johannes Pitz from the german company TECAMP who supplied me with the amazing BAD BULL amplifier as well as the unbelievable BAD CAB cabinet.

 

Since october 31 I am back on the road with ULI ROTH. First we headed off to Greece which was so very intense with its electrifiing crowds, but also... ehm, say "adventurous"... we had to cope with two eleven-hour-trips from Athens to Thessaloniki and back on a small bus which was nothing short of LAME AS A DUCK. (You need to know that from Athens to Thessaloniki is only about 550 km!!!)

From november 4 we are now touring Japan. While writing these notes I'm sitting in my hotel room in Hiroshima - an impressing city with a more than scary history... took a walk in "Peace Park" and rang the peace bell today! Please check out TOUR for more info on dates in Japan.

 

After coming back home on nov. 14 I haven't got much time to relax since the new issue of BASS PROFESSOR is waiting for me as well as some shows of "GODFATHER OF SOUL" and the new "MUSICAL GALA" of the "THEATER FUER NIEDERSACHSEN".

 

Well, music and politics don't necessarily go well together as far as I'm concerned, but I still need to mention this here today. Yesterday was a special day: OBAMA has been elected president of the USA!!! I am so happy not only Bush is finally off the political scene but also that a man of afro-american origins is finally one of THE worlds top leaders... YES WE CAN!

 

OCTOBER 2008:

www.larslehmann.com finally comes along with a new look. Thanx a lot to graphic designer Mark Beumer who also did the lovely new website of Marleaux Bass Guitars. Great job, Mark!

 

From october on my hometown Hannover offers new possibilities in education for pop musicians - a study path called "POPULAR MUSIC" at the "Hochschule for Musik & Theater". From october 13 I'll be supporting the SCORPIONS with ULI JON ROTH & BAND in England. For dates check out "TOUR". Afterwards I'll stay in the UK for some days of guest teaching at the "Academy Of Contemporary Music".

 

Also starting this month are rehearsals for the dance show "GODFATHER OF SOUL" feat. the music of JAMES BROWN and others... Guess who's looking forward to nailing that stuff?! Unfortunately I won't be able to play the premiere because I will still be in the UK. :-(((

 

Last but not least I'm getting ready to packing my bags by the end of october for another part of this years tour with ULI JON ROTH. Starting on november 1 we will play shows in Greece and Japan.

 

SEPTEMBER 2008:

The gigs in Scotland were amazing - the city goes wild during the festival. In three weeks time they have not less than 3000 acts! Thanx to the great danish ensemble, especially Helle, Martin and Perry!

 

At the end of the month I'll be playing the rehearsals and premiere of the new show "Und, bitte!" of the SIXOPRANOS - sort of like a female counterpart to the Ten Tenors.

Rehearsals for the new dance show "GODFATHER OF SOUL" will start at the beginning of October. In the meantime there will be more shows of Gershwins "CRAZY FOR YOU". 

 

Due to time and visa probs i could not play the USA part of the ULI JON ROTH tour. I recommended my dear colleague Martin Motnik - good luck, Martin! I will be joining the band in October for a week of supporting the Scorpions in England. After that i am finally back for teaching at the "Academy Of Contemporary Music" in London before i make my way back home.

AUGUST 2008:

I was invited to join the musical band of danish Jazzsinger Helle Hansen for gigs in Edinburgh (Scotland) at the international theater festival (Fringe festival). Rehearsals will be taking place in Fredericia, Denmark & we will be on the road together from August 17 to 20.I'll also be playing the musical "KLEIDER MACHEN LIEBE" by Heiner Lürig and Heinz Rudolf Kunze at the baroque gardens in Herrenhausen several times a week.

 

JULY 2008:

The gigs with rock guitar legend ULI JON ROTH in New Zealand and Germany went great - apart from the 36-hours-flight to New Plymouth... argh! At the show i got the chance to talk to guys like Vernon Reid (Living Color), Gilby Clarke (Guns'n'Roses), Alex Skolnic (Testament) and many more...

JUNE 2008:

An ENGLISH version of "SLAP ATTACK" - my method on thumbtechnique - will soon be available from this webside! Thanx to Claus Languth for his great work (that still continues) with the translation.
